Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammad Abuqdais, President of Yarmouk University, the USAID-funded Maharat Internship Program held a graduation ceremony for its 8th Pioneers group and its 5th On-the-Job group with the presence of USAID representative and Maharat recruiters.
The graduation ceremony featured a discussion with the graduates about their experience with Maharat and the valuable role it played in their lives upon their graduation from university. The graduates considered their enrollment in Maharat as a necessary step before going into the labor marker, without which their lives would be much more complicated and difficult.
Hala Asfour, a Maharat graduate with a B.A. degree in marketing took a course in “Public Relations & Marketing” under the Pioneers pillar. She currently works for Jordan River Foundation as a Public Relations Coordinator. About her experience with Maharat she said: “Many of us view Maharat as a golden opportunity that is capable of changing our lives. Because of this course, I am now more confident and competent. It helped me discover my strengths and leadership skills and actually boosted them. I recommend each university graduate to enroll in this remarkable program which not only provided me with skills and knowledge but also with a job opportunity at an esteemed organization”.
Dr. Abuqdais and the audience also listened to another Maharat graduate, Murad Amayreh, who successfully completed his 6 month internship under the “On-the-Job” pillar saying that: “As an industrial engineer student, most of my courses focused on the theoretical aspect. It wasn’t until I joined Maharat that I was taught how to speak, communicate and present my ideas, and how to be confident especially when there is a big crowd. I was introduced to so many friends with whom I shared my thoughts and worries and who became not only friends but also family. My personality was developed in an extraordinary way. I consider myself lucky to receive such a valuable opportunity”.
The skills that Maharat graduates acquire through Maharat helps them stand out and get a head start in the labor market. Mr. Talal Ya’eesh, General Manager Assistant of Capital Bank, highlighted this in his speech to the audience saying that: “I can say, from our experience with Maharat, that those graduates are more qualified and skilled than those of their age. This program puts them at the same level of those who have at least one year experience, which is very helpful in such days where time and experience really matters when judging one’s career.”
USAID-funded Maharat Program’s graduates were handed their certificates by Dr. Adbuqudais who congratulated them on their achievements and expressed his admiration of the program and the skills and experience it offers.
